Port of Kalundborg strengthens container handling capacity with a new 100 t capacity Terex Gottwald mobile harbour crane

Since opening the Container Terminal in May 2012, traffic has grown significantly and in order to increase capacity and operational reliability, Port of Kalundborg has purchased a used Gottwald GHMK 6407 from port operator EPAS in the German north sea port of Emden.

Before the crane was sent off to Denmark, EPAS took delivery of a new 150 ton capacity Gottwald GHMK 7608.

The business deal was brokered by Port-Trade ApS, on behalf of EPAS, to the full satisfaction of both seller and buyer. Port-Trade also handled preparations for Ro-Ro sea transport from Emden and provided training of operators and maintenance staff in Kalundborg.

The crane, originally built in 2007, has mainly been used for handling light wind turbine components for Nordex as well as containers. The crane has been well maintained and fit for many years’ reliable operation in Kalundborg.

As all Gottwald cranes, GHMK 6407 is an energy efficient, low-noise and reliable diesel-electric crane.

When working in tandem with the port’s Terex Fantuzzi MHC 130 mobile harbour crane, Kalundborg can offer heavy lifts up to 150 tons.
