EIMSKIP ORDERS ANOTHER GOTTWALD MOBILE HARBOUR CRANE FOR ICELAND
New Generation 5 crane for Sundahófn in Reykjavik
Eimskip ehf, a leading shipping company in the North Atlantic and Baltic seas have ordered their third Gottwald mobile harbour crane.
The first crane, an HMK 260 E, which was ordered for Eimskip’s home terminal in 1996, is now working in Miami. During 2004 the HMK 260 E was succeeded by an HMK 300 E.
The latter crane will now move on to Reidarfjordur on Iceland’s east coast and will be replaced with a new GHMK 6407. One of the first Generation 5 cranes in the Nordic area.
The cranes are shipped with a heavy lift vessel, fully assembled and tested and ready for operation when arriving at their destinations.
Eimskip has experienced excellent results with the first two Gottwald cranes in terms of operational availability, low service costs and overall profitability. At the end of the day, the decision in favour of Gottwald was not at all difficult for VP Gudmundur Nikulasson and his team.
At Reydarfjordur, Alcoa have built their new 0.322 million tpa Fjardaal aluminium smelter and with the HMK 300 E, Eimskip will be handling all stevedoring for Alcoa at Reydarfjordur harbour.
