Mälarhamnar buys gripping tools from Port-Trade for handling wire coils with crane and
forklift truck
The need for efficient handling of large numbers of wire coils for company Rejlers motivated the
port to invest in two sets of mechanical gripping tongs.
One unit comprises 4 tongs under a rectangular frame, suspended from the crane hook. The
arrangement enables simultaneous handling of 4 wire coils, each weighing up to 5 tons.
The inside diameter of the coils may vary between 550 and 630 mm.
The second unit is built up with two tongs, suspended from a fork lift beam.
Each tong grips firmly inside the coil, through the outward movement of the gripping arms,
activated purely mechanically through lifting of the frame.
