Finnish Port of Kokkola buys a used Takraf crane from Mälarhamnar in Sweden

Port-Trade has brokered a deal between Port of Kokkola and Mälarhamnar, Port of Västerås.

Being familiar with both ports, Peter Muller knew exactly where to find the Takraf Atlant crane Kokkola was looking for. Having one already, Kokkola wanted another like it and the right one became available from Västerås.

Overhauled and converted to 4-rope grab

The crane, originally built in 1990, needed to be overhauled and Kokkola also wanted to convert it from single hoist to four rope grab crane. Having both the experience and the capacity to manage such a project themselves, the staff at Kokkola did not hesitate to take on the task.

Under the capable leadership of Tapio Lampinen and Lars Byström, the crane was taken to a site at Hangö, west of Helsinki. Here, the tower was heightened by approx. 6 m. Also a new slew ring and new hoist gears, from Ardelt in Eberswalde, were installed.

After successfully concluding this work, the crane was taken by barge along the Finnish coast, up to Kokkola, where it started work immediately after test and commissioning.
